DEFINING ROLES AND TAKING OWNERSHIP

Christina Baum, Vice President of Digital Transformation

I hope this message finds you well and filled with anticipation for the exciting changes ahead. As you are aware, our division is in the midst of a comprehensive reorganization that will shape the future of our division. My focus at this time is on the importance of defining roles, fostering collaboration, and igniting a renewed sense of ownership within our division.

Defining Roles and Responsibilities

Clarity and purpose are essential for success. That is why our current priority is to define clear roles and responsibilities for each position within the Digital Transformation Division. By doing so, we provide you with a roadmap that empowers you to take ownership of your work and make a real impact. When you know exactly what belongs in your domain, decision-making becomes easier and productivity soars.

The New Organizational Structure

This reorganization signifies a departure from the previous hierarchy we operated in. Instead, we are embracing a partnership-first approach that values shared accountabilities, responsibilities, and partnerships. Together, we will collaborate across departments and units, leveraging our collective strengths and expertise. This new structure is designed to promote a culture of collaboration and ensure seamless alignment with the broader university community.

Empowering You

Throughout this reorganization, my aim is to empower you. I want you to envision yourself as the CEO of your own domain, responsible for driving innovation and delivering exceptional results. This transformation will give you the autonomy to make decisions, the ownership to take charge, and the confidence to seize new opportunities that arise. Your perspectives, expertise, experiences, ideas, and unwavering commitment are vital for the success of our division.

Enhancing Efficiency and Streamlined Operations

We live in a fast-paced world where demands on our division are ever-increasing. To thrive, we must be agile and efficient. That is why the new organizational structure is designed to enhance efficiency and streamline our operations. By aligning shared services with functional teams and existing workflows, we eliminate redundancies and create a lean, responsive division. This will enable us to meet the dynamic needs of the university and stay ahead in the rapidly evolving technological landscape.

Seeking Your Engagement and Collaboration

This reorganization is not just a top-down initiative; it is a journey we embark on together. Your active participation and engagement are crucial for our collective success. I encourage you to ask questions, seek clarity, and voice your ideas. Let us create an environment where open communication flows freely, fostering collaboration and nurturing a sense of community. Together, we will shape the future of our division and the university as a whole.

I am filled with optimism and excitement. I see untapped potential that exists within our division, and I believe the reorg is the key to unleashing it. Together, we can become more than exhausted firefighters rushing from one emergency to the next. By organizing ourselves effectively, we will become a responsive and agile division that serves the university with exceptional care, exceptional accountability, and exceptional results. I have faith in your abilities, and I know that great things await us.

CULTIVATING PROFESSIONALISM IN THE WORKPLACE

Brett McKeachnie, Senior Director of Product Portfolio Management

In today's fast-paced and interconnected world, professionalism in the workplace is more crucial than ever. A respectful and professional work environment not only fosters collaboration and productivity but also enhances overall job satisfaction. By adhering to certain principles and guidelines, we can create a thriving atmosphere of professionalism that drives us toward success.

Interact Respectfully

A respectful work environment is one where individuals feel valued, safe, and supported. It involves treating colleagues with kindness, empathy, and fairness. Respectful interactions, regardless of hierarchy or differences, create a positive atmosphere that encourages open communication, teamwork, and mutual growth.

Hold Yourself Accountable

Individual professionalism starts with personal accountability. Take ownership of your actions, meet deadlines, and deliver quality work. Dress appropriately, adhere to company policies and procedures, and maintain a positive attitude. Demonstrating integrity, honesty, and a strong work ethic not only reflects positively on you but also inspires those around you.

Communicate Clearly

Clear and effective communication is the cornerstone of professionalism. Whether it's face-to-face conversations, emails, or virtual meetings, strive to be concise, courteous, and attentive. Actively listen to your colleagues, ask clarifying questions, and respond in a timely manner. Constructive feedback should be delivered respectfully, focusing on the issue at hand rather than personal attacks. Give others the benefit of the doubt and be generous with your interpretation of their intentions.

Take Opportunities to Learn and Grown

Continuous personal and professional growth is essential for maintaining professionalism. Embrace opportunities for learning and development, both within and outside your area of expertise. Engage in workshops, seminars, and conferences to enhance your skills and broaden your knowledge base. Staying up to date with industry trends and advancements will benefit you as well as the overall competence of the team.

Order Your Space and Organize Your Work

Order and organization are fundamental attributes of professionalism. Maintain a clean and clutter-free workspace, as it promotes efficiency and a sense of professionalism. Keep your files, documents, and digital folders well-organized and easily accessible. Prioritize tasks, set realistic goals, and manage your time effectively. By demonstrating order and organization, you inspire confidence in your colleagues and instill a sense of reliability.

Embrace Change and Adaptability

In today's rapidly evolving work landscape, adaptability is a key attribute of professionalism. Be willing to adapt to new technologies, processes, and methodologies. Cultivate a growth mindset that values learning from failures and encourages innovation. Provide resources and support to help others navigate change successfully. By embracing change and adaptability, we create a dynamic and forward-thinking work environment.

In Conclusion...

Professionalism in the workplace goes beyond simply adhering to a dress code or displaying good manners. Professionalism is acquired through respectful interactions, personal accountability, clear communication, continuous growth, order and organization, and adaptability.

By embracing principles of professionalism, we can create a work culture that fosters integrity, collaboration, productivity, satisfaction, and long-term success. Let's work together to cultivate professionalism in Dx and build a supportive and thriving community.
