UVU Team Preserves History in Bolivia

Our Digital Media professors Emily Hedrick, Bryan Samson and their student teams embarked on a two-week trip to Bolivia where they worked alongside the Architecture department for the preservation of an UNESCO archaeological site historic sites in Tiwanaku. The production team consisting of Mckay Horton (Digital Cinema) and Tanner Mahovsky (Digital Audio) worked to take video and audio recordings towards a documentary that explores the history of Tiwanaku. Meanwhile, the web team including Al Baker (Web Dev) and Katelyn Swain (Web Design) used drones to create a 3d-recreation of the site.
Their time there had a major impact on both the outlooks of future preservation efforts in not just Bolivia but around the world, alongside giving students a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take their skills outside of the classroom.
Tanner Mahovsky mentioned on the topic, “This project will help me after graduation not only because it was an incredible opportunity to work with professionals on a multi-departmental, multi-institutional project, but because it sparked a drive in me to seek connection to my community and a desire to help other communities tell their stories.”
