Mission

As College of Science advisors, we empower students with accurate guidance for success. We support students and their networks through transparent communication. To promote retention and graduation, we provide timely information, explain curriculum and policies, identify resources, and engage in continuous development.

Vision

College of Science academic advising provides students a quality experience as they pursue their goals. Advisors are recognized as professionals throughout the university and valued as a critical component to student success.

 

 

Responsibilities

Advisor Responsibilities

Students can expect UVU academic advisors to do the following:

    • Provide a safe space in which to share your questions, concerns, thoughts, aspirations, and interests.
    • Actively listen to you and treat you respectfully as an adult.
    • Maintain confidentiality with all information shared.
    • Provide guidance and encouragement as you develop a clear, realistic education plan.
    • Assist you in making course and major decisions; teach you how to use available tools for degree planning and course registration.
    • Understand and effectively communicate degree and graduation requirements, policies, and procedures.
    • Provide information about UVU resources; refer you to applicable campus services, organizations, and/or individuals as needed.

 

Student Responsibilities

Students are expected to do the following:

    • Develop and academic plan and career goals with the guidance of your advisor. Graduate in a timely manner based on your academic plan.
    • Meet regularly with your advisor. Proactively plan by visiting them early in the semester.
    • Come to appointments prepared with questions and/or discussion topics; participate fully in the advising experience.
    • Understand how to navigate the course registration site and enroll in courses according to your academic plan.
    • Understand your major’s general education and program requirements.
    • Consistently check myUVU for messages from the university.
    • Learn about UVU resources; follow through when referred by your advisor.
    • Accept responsibility for your decisions and actions which affect your educational progress and goals.
