Community Building and Belonging

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) Community Building and Belonging Committee invites applications and nominations for the newly established CHSS Community Building and Belonging Grants and Awards; the committee will award up to $10,000. Many of our CHSS faculty and staff are already seriously engaged with promoting UVU’s focus on community building and belonging in their activities and scholarship. Community Building and Belonging Grants provide an opportunity for monetary support for nominees’ continued pursuit of community building and belonging. Community Building and Belonging Awards recognize individuals and programs whose past and continued work for community building and belonging sets the bar for the rest of CHSS. As such, the Community Building and Belonging Grants and Awards program serves a two-fold purpose: providing support for existing community building and belonging efforts and encouraging members of CHSS to consider the value of community building and belonging in planning future activities.

In preparing your application, consider utilizing UVU’s Strategic Belonging Committee definitions.

Awards and Grants Information

Community Building and Belonging Awards

Building and Belonging Awards recognize individuals and programs whose past and continued work for diversity, equity, and community building and belonging sets the bar for the rest of CHSS. The CHSS Community Building and Belonging Committee invites nominations and self-nominations for the CHSS Community Building and Belonging Awards by February 15. There are three award categories: one for a program, department, or other organization within CHSS; an individual award for a CHSS faculty member; and a separate award for a CHSS staff member. Recipients will be celebrated during the Dean’s Awards in April.

Community Building and Belonging Grants

There will be two calls for application for CHSS Community Building and Belonging Grants, with deadlines in Fall (October 15) and Spring (February 15). The Community Building and Belonging Grant application process is similar to that of the ELLA Grant. Possibilities for applications include, but are not limited to, a speaker or event with a community-building and belonging focus, underrepresented student outreach or support, and research related to questions of diversity, equity, and/or community-building and belonging. Within one month of the application deadline, the CHSS Community Building and Belonging Committee will notify applicants of the decision. Community Building and Belonging Grant funds must be used by the end of the academic year on June 30.
