A certificate of completion can be earned in two eight-credit modules during a single academic semester after RCA course prerequisites are completed. Approximately 700 hours of classroom instruction, fireground training, and college-level prerequisite course work are completed through a part-time schedule offered entirely on nights and weekends.
Affordable
Regardless of residential status, students in the Firefighter Recruit Candidate Academy (RCA) pay the same competitive tuition rate. The cost for each module is $2,000, equaling a total program tuition cost of $4,000. Books, equipment, and supplies approximately are an additional $520, for an all-in price of approximately $4,520. Financial aid is available to all who qualify.
Experienced
The Firefighter Recruit Candidate Academy (RCA) at Utah Valley University graduated its first class in April 1998. Since that time, more than 75 classes have graduated, totaling more than 1,600 recruit candidates.
