The Utah County is facing a multitude of challenges resulting from a growing population. Chief among them is transportation. As the cities across the Wasatch front grow, so does the need for safe, efficient, and environmentally sustainable transportation systems. “Utah County is presently facing many challenges dealing with transportation, air quality, water resources, wildfires, and housing," said Saeed Moaveni, dean of UVU’s College of Engineering and Technology, who added ”One of the goals of the transportation summit is to bring all of the stakeholders together at one time to address the challenges as communities redesign themselves into smart cities.”
Autonomous transportation will soon become an integral part of all connected communities. Data collected by these smart cities will be shared with autonomous transportation systems, and the anticipated connectivity will bring significant improvements in safety and the quality of life. Experts from Aviation, UDOT, UTA, UVU, BYU, and Mayors’ Offices discussed planning and emerging technologies related to electric vehicles, vehicle to vehicle communication, autonomous mobility, light-rail technologies, and urban air mobility.
