GIFT REINVESTMENT FEE

OVERVIEW

The Utah Valley University (UVU) Institutional Advancement division has implemented a five percent gift reinvestment fee that will strategically expand fundraising efforts across the university to impact student success.

Utah Valley University (UVU) Institutional Advancement adopted a gift fee of five percent at the November 2021 UVU Foundation Board meeting. The purpose of the UVU gift reinvestment fee (GRF) is to provide a foundation to each unit for ongoing fundraising initiatives, increase the endowment of the University, and scale fundraising efforts throughout the University.

What is the GRF?

The UVU gift reinvestment fee ensures a Utah Valley University (UVU) education is accessible to all. The gift reinvestment fee will increase the university’s capacity to scale programs and grow the University’s endowment to meet the needs of future students for generations to come. Your gift will be your impact.

How will the GRF be Used for UVU?

The UVU gift reinvestment fee will allow the University to scale Institutional Advancement programs to meet the increasing needs of students and the University's growth trajectory.

Does the GRF affect the tax-deductibility of my contribution?

No, the full amount of the gift is charitable.

Does the GRF apply to recurring automatic contributions (credit card, EFT, payroll deduction, etc.)?

The only recurring gift that is exempt from the gift reinvestment fee is payroll deductions. The fee applies to all other recurring payments.

Does the GRF apply to endowed funds?

No, the gift reinvestment fee does not apply to gifts made to the endowment.

What is the GRF Amount?

The gift reinvestment fee amount is 5% of any gift from a donor. Please see below for a breakdown of the allocation.

  • 1% of each gift will be directed to the Utah Valley University (UVU) endowment
  • 2% of each gift will be directed to the individual fundraising unit for which the gift is directed
  • 2% of each gift will be directed to Institutional Advancement to scale fundraising efforts

Does the GRF apply to private foundations?

The gift reinvestment fee does apply to foundations.

Does the GRF apply to securities?

Yes, the gift reinvestment fee does apply to securities.

Does the GRF apply to pledge payments?

Utah Valley University applies the gift reinvestment fee to all pledge payments made on pledges after December 31, 2021. If the pledge agreement was signed on or before December 31, 2021, then no gift reinvestment fee will be applied.

Can a donor increase their gift amount to cover the GRF?

Yes, any donor can choose to increase their gift to cover the reinvestment fee if they so desire.

Does the GRF apply to matching gifts?

Yes, the gift reinvestment fee does apply to matching gifts.
