International Advisory Board

Purposes of the Utah Valley University International Advisory Board

  1. Be informed ambassadors of UVU.
  2. Provide insight and feedback to the president and her cabinet regarding UVU’s strategic directions and initiatives.
  3. Provide opportunities for UVU students to succeed (internships, engaged-learning opportunities for students and faculty, scholarships, and jobs).

Jeff Alexander

Jeff Alexander founded Alexander’s in Provo, Utah, with a single commercial copier in 1979. He has become an author and speaker on topics related to personal motivation and business strategy. Currently, Alexander serves as vice chair of the board of the International Printers’ Network. He has served on the board of the Provo-Orem Chamber and as president of the Provo Rotary Club. In 1990, he was elected to the Utah Legislature and served until 2006. In 2007 he received an honorary doctorate from Utah Valley University. Currently, Alexander is a trustee of the Utah Technology Council and serves on the board of the Salt Lake Chamber. He also serves as an advisor to the director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. He earned a degree from Brigham Young University in public relations and organizational communications.

Jeff Bullwinkel is the associate general counsel and director of corporate, external, and legal affairs for Microsoft Europe. He is also an avid contributor to public policy debates shaping the future of technology. Prior to his nearly 20 years with Microsoft, he spent time as a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice and as an associate for Simpson, Thatcher, & Bartlett LLP. He holds a B.A. in English from Duke University and a J.D. from the NYU School of Law.

Board Member

Kim B. Clark is the NAC Professor of Business at the BYU Marriott School of Business. From April 2015 to October 2019 he served as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and as commissioner of the Church Educational System.

Elder Clark received a Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Arts, and a Ph.D., all in economics, from Harvard University. He became a faculty member at the Harvard Business School in 1978 and was named dean of that school in 1995. He served in that capacity until summer 2005, when he was named the president of Brigham Young University–Idaho. He served as president of BYU-Idaho until April 2015.

Before serving as president and CEO of Colliers Banker Commercial Intermountain, Lew W. Cramer served as president and CEO of World Trade Center Utah from 2006 to 2013. He is the former director general of the U.S. & Foreign Commercial Service and the former assistant secretary of commerce for international trade. He is also a former deputy assistant secretary of commerce for science and electronics. Mr. Cramer holds a J.D. from Brigham Young University and is admitted to practice law in California. He is fluent in English and German, and he has served as a lecturer as part of the U.S. Information Agency Visitors Program and U.S. Department of State Foreign Service Institute, as well as several universities in the U.S. and abroad.

Sanchaita "Sanch" Datta
Board Member

Sanchaita (Sanch) Datta is the president of FatPipe, Inc., a provider of highly reliable, highly redundant, secure, and optimized connectivity for wide area networks. She is currently a member of the Utah State Board of Regents and former member of the Salt Lake Community College Board of Trustees. She has held key engineering positions at 3Com/Megahertz and Intel/Dayna. She has an M.S. in electrical engineering from Pennsylvania State University, where her thesis involved the simulation and modeling of reflective and absorption properties of materials used as coatings in stealth technology for the Department of Defense. She has 10 patents with over 170 technological claims. She was recognized by the Utah Asian Chamber of Commerce, YWCA, and Utah Business Magazine for her accomplishments.

Boyd is the host of KSL’s Inside Sources, weekdays from 1-3 PM. Previously, Boyd Matheson was the opinion editor and head of strategic reach at the Deseret News. He is best known for his principle-based approach to solving issues. For over 25 years he has worked as a consultant, executive strategist and performance coach with global companies.

He is a recognized leader in the fields of strategic communication, branding, corporate culture, leadership excellence, change management and human development. As President of Trillium Strategies, he works with global companies like Adobe, ChevronTexaco, Visa and Motorola. Prior to launching Trillium Strategies Boyd was the Director of Corporate Communications at Symantec. He led an unprecedented charge in transforming the company’s brand, communication, cult and leadership, working alongside Symantec’s legendary CEO John Thompson. During his tenure, Boyd was instrumental in the acquisition and rapid integration of 12 companies, doubling the number of employees worldwide and propelling Symantec to become the global leader in Internet Security.

His political consulting work included speechwriting, crafting communication strategies and providing personal counsel to local and national elected officials. As Chief of Staff for US Senator Mike Lee, he drove a media, communication and policy strategy to build a movement around upward mobility and opportunity for all Americans. His tenure at Sutherland Institute elevated the conservative think tank as the resource for insight, dialogue and solutions that promote a free market economy, civil society and community-driven solutions.

Boyd is a father of 5 and grandfather of 7.

Christine Durham retired from the Utah Supreme Court in 2017, after serving as a justice for 35 years and as chief justice and chair of the Utah Judicial Council for 10 of those years. She currently co-chairs Utah’s Coordinating Committee on Access to Justice and the Utah Center for Legal Inclusion. Before joining the Utah Supreme Court, she served on the state trial court after a number of years in private practice. She received her B.A. with honors from Wellesley College and a J.D. from Duke University.

Gary Lew is a retired senior banking executive with 36 years of experience in the financial services industry, including 27 years based in the Asia Pacific region. He has worked with BNY Mellon and Deutsche Bank in Hong Kong, Bankers Trust Company and Bank of California in San Francisco. He has a degree in Business Finance from BYU and an MBA from Golden Gate University.

Divya Modi is an entrepreneur and investor with a deep belief in the power of disruption through entrepreneurship. Having been the global director of finance at her $2 billion family conglomerate Smart Global, she went on to set up several entrepreneurial ventures in healthcare, financial services, and real estate before setting up her own family office Interweave Ventures, where they work with entrepreneurial projects benefiting a large cross section of people. She has an MBA from the University of Chicago and a master’s in accounting from the University of Southern California.

Dee Mower is a passionate advocate for fighting cancer, thus she founded Trivani Online. She has her own manufacturing company to produce health and body care products. Prior to that, she co-founded Neways International, which remained in business for 20 years. She is active in providing humanitarian aid to the world's people, and has been actively helping people from Cambodia, Uganda, Kenya, and the U.S.

Ally Isom is a former US Senate candidate and was recently appointed as a vice president with the Clyde Companies. She has worked in various roles in Utah state government, including the deputy chief of staff for Governor Gary Herbert. Ally also worked in the public affairs department for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Charles Dahlquist is a trial lawyer and chair of the Healthcare Law Section at the law firm of Kirton McConkie in Salt Lake City. He served as the Young Men general president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is an active Rotarian, and he served as the president of the Salt Lake Rotary Club from 2004-2005. He is active in scouting and has served on the National BSA Executive Board. He is the honorary consul for the Federal Republic of Germany and a founding member, and the first president of the Utah Consular Corps. Charles has a B.A. in broadcast communications from Brigham Young University and a law degree from the University of Utah.

He is a professor of business at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, and co-founder of The RBL Group. He has written numerous books covering topics in human resources and leadership. He has been ranked the #1 Management Educator & Guru by BusinessWeek, selected by Fast Company as one of the 10 most innovative and creative leaders, and named the most influential person in HR by HR Magazine for three years.

Daniel W. Campbell

Daniel W. Campbell
Board Member

Daniel W. Campbell is a long-time advocate for higher education in Utah. He served as a member of Utah Valley University’s Board of Trustees for nine years including terms as vice-chair and chair of the board. He then served for nine years on the Utah State Board of Regents, the governing body of the Utah System of Higher Education, including six years as vice-chair or chair. He chaired the Regents’ Resource and Review Committee for the University of Utah, and served as a member of the Governor’s Commission on Education Excellence.

Campbell was formerly the senior vice president and chief financial officer of WordPerfect Corporation, and prior to that was a partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers. Since 1994, he has been a managing general partner at EsNet Group, a privately held investment company.

Sid Krommenhoek

Sid Krommenhoek
Board Member

Sid Krommenhoek is the founder and general partner at Album VC, an early-stage venture capital firm focused on software startups throughout the United States. Before his career at VC, he co-founded zinch.com, an online student portal acquired by Chegg in 2011. Sid led Chegg’s international efforts through the initial public offering in 2013 (CHGG, NYSE). Sid is drawn to tight-knit partnerships with high accountability, which he sees as the best formula for navigating the chaos of startups and building long-term value.

Board Member

Ray Pickup serves as a director and chief executive officer of WCF Insurance. He joined WCF in 1993 as CFO, became COO in 2006, and president and CEO in 2008. Prior to WCF, he was vice president of finance at First Health Strategies and a senior audit manager for Ernst & Young. He is active in the community and serves on several boards, including the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the Economic Development Corporation of Utah Board of Trustees as the Audit Committee chair. He is a member of the U.S. Department of Transportation Air Ambulance and Patient Advisory Committee. Mr. Pickup holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Brigham Young University.

Thomas Ngo

Thomas Ngo
Board Member

Tom Ngo is Founder & CEO of Lumin.ai. Previously he served as Chief Product Officer at Idealab, as Vice President at Disney Research, and in executive positions at multiple startups. In prior technical work, he co-invented an efficient delivery mechanism for broadband media, ground-breaking techniques for synthetic computer animation and a physically compact device for implementing the famous cocktail-party effect.

Tom holds a Ph.D. in Computational Biophysics from Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree in Physics from Cambridge University, where he graduated with first-class honors and received the first Sir Neville Mott prize for the best undergraduate thesis in theoretical physics.
