What does it mean to be First Gen?

At UVU we define First Gen as being the first person in your immediate family to pursue or complete a bachelors degree in the United States.  You still qualify as a first- generation student if:

  • Your grandparents earned a bachelors degree or higher but your parents did not
  • Your parents completed higher education outside of the United States
  • Your parents completed an associate degree
  • Your parents completed trade school or vocational training
