WSC Leadership Academy is a two-semester program that provides participants with knowledge and experience to build and refine their leadership skills.

The mission of WSC Leadership Academy is to encourage leadership identity development for women, foster a supportive community, and provide resources for academic persistence. Students’ experiences in this program are tailored to give them the knowledge, experience, and skills to lead in any capacity.

Program Requirements:

The 2021-2022 application for the WSC Leadership Academy Cohort will open February 1, 2021. To be considered, applicants must be enrolled as full-time students (12 credit hours), have completed at least 30 credit hours (15 of which must be at UVU) and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Scholarships may be available for students who apply and are admitted to the program. The priority application deadline is April 2, 2021 and students will hear back by April 9, 2021.
 
  • Semester 1
    • Complete StrengthsFinder assessment
    • Create development plan
    • Enroll in SLSS 141R
    • Submit monthly reflections
    • Complete and present 2 case studies with a group
    • Attend biweekly cohort meetings (this is a time for cohort to come together and discuss their holistic experience, hear from guest speakers, work on projects)
    • Meet at least three times with assigned peer mentor
    • Meet at least two times with Program Coordinator one to one
  • Semester 2

    • Submit final project
    • Enroll in MGMT 2030
    • Submit monthly reflections
    • Complete and present 2 case studies with a group
    • Attend biweekly cohort meetings (this is a time for cohort to come together and discuss their holistic experience, hear from guest speakers, work on projects)
    • Meet at least three times with assigned peer mentor
    • Meet at least two times with Program Coordinator one to one

Peer Mentors

We will also be selecting peer mentors for the WSC Leadership Academy. These will be students in their junior or senior year that have previous leadership experience. They will aid the WSC Leadership Academy cohort by providing guidance, support and role modeling. Peer Mentors will be assigned 3-5 mentees depending on the number of students in the cohort and the number of peer mentors selected.

 Peer Mentor Benefits:

  • Establish positive working relationships with UVU students and staff
  • Identify and improve unique leadership style
  • Learn how to appropriately maintain and manage mentoring relationship
  • Enhance communication and facilitation skills
  • $300 stipend

 

 Peer Mentor Requirements:

  • Submit application and complete interview
  • Be enrolled full time (at least 12 credit hours)*
  • Maintain 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Have complete at least 60 credit hours by Fall 2021 (30 of which at UVU)

*Unless dictated by degree plan

 

Peer Mentor Description:

  • Complete Peer Mentor training prior to the start of the semester
  • Meet at least 3 times with their mentees during the fall semester
  • Meet with Women Lead Program Coordinator at least twice during the fall semester
  • Meet with Peer Mentor team at least 2 times during the fall semester
  • Provide insight into their experiences and information about campus resources
