Team Roster

Portrait of Shane Draper

Head Coach, Shane Draper, was born and raised in Genola, Utah where he graduated from Payson High School and started his career as a rodeo cowboy. Shane is in his 9th year as the Head Coach of the Utah Valley University Rodeo Team he has made great strides. He is a knowledgeable, supportive, and a motivational coach that has shown dedication and ingenuity in building and leading the rodeo team thus far. Without a doubt, the organization will be benefited by having him at the helm. He is respected and admired by his team, school and community; in return, he uses his quick smile and strong work ethic to assist him in giving us a rodeo team that we can be proud of.

Draper has competed in rodeo at all levels, from High School to college and the PRCA; during his competitive rodeo career, he qualified for the UHSRA (Utah High School Rodeo Association) & NHSRA (National High School Rodeo Association), CNFR and the Wilderness Circuit Finals in Saddle Bronc Riding. From 1998 to 2000 he was chosen as the Rocky Mountain Region Student Director for the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. Draper has been a rodeo judge for the Utah High School Rodeo Association since 2001 and co-produces the annual Genola Amateur Rodeo. He says some of his favorite memories come from all the traveling he has done while being involved in rodeo.

Draper now makes his career as a rodeo coach and math teacher after earning his bachelor's and master's degrees in elementary education from Utah State University and Southern Utah University, respectively. He taught for several years at Brookside Elementary.

Draper's favorite song is Summer of 69, favorite food is steak and favorite color is blue. Draper often participates in local team roping events and trains and rides horses. He enjoys spending time with his family and supporting them in all their activities, he also loves to camp and hunt.

He is married to Shawnee; they have three children, Dexton (21), Skylee (19) and Zandon (14).
