Add/Drop/Withdraw

Add a Course

Using the student registration system in myUVU, students may add courses to their schedule without instructor permission if done before the end of the waitlist period (as listed on the Registration Dates and Deadlines). The waitlist period generally ends after the first week of classes for full semester classes, and after only a few days for block classes.  After that time, registration is considered late.

Learn More About Late Registration

Drop a Course

Using the student registration system, students may drop courses from their schedule, provided they are not dropping all of their courses, according to the published dates and deadlines. Students dropping all of their courses must complete a Leave of Absence.

NOTE: Dropping a course reverses all associated tuition and fees, and removes the course from the transcript. Dropping is not the same as withdrawing.

Withdraw from a Course

Using the student registration system, students may withdraw from courses, provided they are not withdrawing from all of their courses, according to the published dates and deadlines. Students withdrawing from all of their courses must complete a Leave of Absence.

NOTE: Withdrawing from a course does not reverse the associated tuition and fees. A 'W' grade will be published to the transcript and is permanent. A 'W' grade is not counted in the GPA.

Section Swap

A section swap is the process of moving a student from one section of a class to another section (often with a different instructor) of the same class after add/drop deadlines have passed.

NOTE: The instructor's permission is required. Students should obtain permsission via email before submitting a request.

Withdrawal Exceptions (Late Withdrawal)

After the published "last day to withdraw" and before the last day of the semester, withdrawing requires a petition called the Late Withdrawal Request. Follow this process:

  1. Open the Late Withdrawal Request Form.
  2. Complete the form and upload all supporting documentation when prompted (required!).
  3. Check your student email for status updates.

The Registrar's Office will review the form and documentation, consult with the appropriate department chairs, and inform you of a decision. More details and instructions are found on the form.
