Biography

I seek to be a caring, knowledgeable, and encouraging advisor. I am passionate about working with college students to help them plan their way through their academic career. I support students as they learn their purpose at the institution and help them navigate to their best academic selves. I apply a holistic approach to see each student as an individual and partner with him or her to find solutions to academic difficulty. I encourage students to be responsible for their own academic journey and decisions, yet help students identify and utilize resources available to them.

One of the core theories of my practice is the idea ?the amount of challenge an individual can tolerate is a function of the amount of support available?. I help students identify their level of challenge and assist them in finding the support necessary for them to grow and develop as successful students.

To do this, I encourage students to be active participants in their higher education experience. I love seeing students tackle challenges and be successful as they learn new skills to improve their lives. I use a strengths-based, appreciative advising approach that holds students accountable, but provide them options and opportunities to improve.
