Biography

Jeffrey Alan Johnson is an internationally recognized leader in strategic planning, institutional research and effectiveness, and information ethics. As Director of Institutional Effectiveness, Planning, and Accreditation Support at Utah Valley University, he leads institutional and unit strategic planning and assessment, and plays critical roles in accreditation and major planning, analysis, and policy initiatives across and beyond campus, driving the success of 40,000 students and of UVU's innovative dual-mission approach to higher education. He has twice been honored with Divisional Awards of Excellence for his sustained, outstanding contributions to UVU's mission, core themes, and operations, and was a prestigious Utah Valley Senior Executive Leadership Forum Fellow in 2017-18.

Dr. Johnson is also a highly regarded scholar in higher education, public policy, and information technology. His recent book, "Toward Information Justice: Technology, Politics, and Policy for Data in Higher Education Administration" (New York: Springer, 2018), breaks new ground in the study of ethics in public organizations? use of information technologies. He teaches as a graduate faculty associate in the School of Education and as a lecturer in the College of Engineering and Technology. He consults internationally for higher education institutions, public policy organizations, and businesses, and has served on the boards of several professional and civic organizations, including as President of the Rocky Mountain Association for Institutional Research. A native of Southern California, Dr. Johnson holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1989 to 1996.
