Our health insurance options offer valuable coverage that meets your needs at every stage of life.

ELIGIBILITY & COVERAGE

Employees who are hired to work at least 130 hours per month (30 hours per week) in a 12-month measurement period are eligible for health insurance coverage and benefits. Employees who enroll in the offered coverage can also enroll their eligible dependents, including:

  • Legally married spouse
  • Children under age 26 (natural, step, adopted or for whom you have legal custody)
  • Disabled children over age 26 (with required approval based on supporting documentation and prior to aging off the plan)

Coverage begins on the first day of the month following the employee's date of hire. If the employee starts on the first working day of the month (when the 1st falls on a weekend or holiday), coverage begins on the first day of that month.

HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE

Each UVU employee is unique, and so are their family's health and financial needs. Medical, dental, and supplemental vision benefits are offered separately, enabling you to select each option individually. 

  • Medical Coverage - The UVU self-funded medical plan, administered by Regence BlueCross BlueShield, offers two network options and two plan choices: the Traditional Plan and the High-Deductible Health Plan. 
  • Dental Coverage - The UVU self-funded dental plan, administered by Regence Dental, provides access to a wide network of over 5,000 providers. The plan includes an annual coverage allowance of $2,000 per member, per plan year, and a separate lifetime orthodontia maximum of $1,500 per member (applicable to employees, spouses, and dependent children ages 7-25). 
  • Vision Coverage - UVU's supplemental vision plan through EyeMed Vision Care, offers a benefit frequency every 12-months, with an allowance of $200 towards frames or contact lenses.
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) - provides benefits-eligible employees who choose a Traditional Health Plan to set aside a portion of their income on a pre-tax basis to cover "qualified health-related expenses" for themselves, their spouses, and eligible dependent children. 
  • Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (DCFSA) - provides benefits-eligible employees with the option to set aside a portion of their income on a pre-tax basis to pay for "qualified dependent care/daycare expenses" for children up to age 13 or an adult relative who is physically or mentally incapable of self-care.  
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) - provides benefits-eligible employees who choose a High-Deductible Health Plan the option to set aside a portion of their income on a pre-tax basis to pay for "qualified health-realted expenses" incurred by themselves, their spouses, and thier eligible dependents.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS

Newly hired full-time, benefits-eligible employees will be automatically enrolled in a 401(a) Defined Contribution Plan, with contributions totaling 14.2% of their compensation. Employees can choose to invest their contributions through TIAA and/or Fidelity Investments.

Employees who have previously participated in Utah Retirement Systems (URS) with another employer and wish to remain with URS must make an irrevocable decision to do so. Employees rehired into a full-time, benefits-eligible position who had URS in the past will be automatically defaulted back into the URS system.

Additional retirement savings options are available through payroll deduction with no employer match. These options include 401(k), 403(b), and 457 tax-deferred plans, as well as Roth IRA, Roth 403(b), and Roth 457 plans. 

SUPPLEMENTAL INSURANCE

Additional employee-paid supplemental insurance options are available through payroll deductions.

  • Aflac: offers accidental, cancer, hospital indemnity, and short-term disability insurance plans
  • Farmers Insurance Group (previously MetLife): offers auto/home insurance plans
  • MetLife Legal Plans: offers legal services and assistance 
  • Legal Shield/ID Shield: offers legal and identity theft services and assistance
  • My529 (Utah Educational Savings Plan): offers educational savings plans for future education expenses and K-12 tuition expenses

EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP)

UVU's Employee Assistance Program (EAP), ComPsych, provides short-term counseling and other mental health resources to employees and their dependents to help support the challenges of life. 

The EAP services provide:

  • Up to eight (8) free counseling sessions (per new qualified event)
  • 24/7 crisis help & referral to an in-network provider
  • Online community support and forums
  • Family support for child care/adult-elder care
  • Legal/financial guidance

UVU Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

UVUFIT EMPLOYEE WELLNESS PROGRAM

UVU offers an award-winning, incentive-based wellness program to support employees in their wellness journey towards a healthier lifestyle. The  program focuses on supporting nutritional, physical, emotional, occupational, and environmental health. UVUFit is available to full-time, benefits-eligible employees who are enrolled in one of the UVU-offered medical plans. The program runs each year from July 1 through April 30, allowing employees an opportunity to earn up to $525 in cash incentives. For more information please visit myUVU Workplace.

Spouses and dependent children (ages 13+) enrolled in one of UVU's medical plans can register for a Regence account and earn up to $25 in Amazon gift cards by completing healthy activities.  

UVU Employee Dependent Well-being Progam Instructions

UVU TUITION REMISSION

Utah Valley University provides eligible employee the opportunity for educational development through the use of tuition remission. The tuition remission benefit waives up to 18 credit hours of undergraduate tuition for full-time, benefits-eligible employees and their dependents.

  • Benefit-eligible employees - undergraduate tuition and student fees are waived.*
  • Spouse and dependents - undergraduate tuition is waived for spouses and dependent children (up to age 26 and unmarried) of benefits-eligible employees. Student fees are not waived.*
  • Hourly Staff and Adjunct Faculty - may be eligible for the tuition remission waiver, waiving one course per semester.*

*Some courses and programs may be ineligible for the waiver. Refer to UVU Policy 357 for eligibility requirements, exceptions, and details.

LEAVE

Benefits-eligible employees receive a generous leave package, which may include sick, vacation, and personal leave, as well as paid holidays.

LIFE/AD&D INSURANCE AND LTD

UVU offers all full-time, benefits-eligible employees a Basic Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance policy at no cost. Employees have the option to purchase additional Voluntary Life and Accidental Dealth & Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage for themselves, their spouses, and their dependent children at an extra cost.

Additionally, UVU offers Long-Term Disability Insurance (LTD) and Workers Compensation Insurance at no cost to employees, providing coverage for life's unexpected events.
