| Faculty are encouraged to plan as part of their normal teaching assignment an opportunity to develop scholarly and creative research activities involving undergraduate students each academic year. Such activities or projects could be initiated with a single student or a small group of students. The project could be built into regular class curriculum or could be a stand alone project with separate academic credit for students and teaching responsibilities for professors. The goal would be to find promising students in lower division courses and to allow them to progress in research through their four years at UVU, with the senior thesis (and perhaps a published paper) being the end goals of the scholarly activity. The progression of the scholarly experience would allow students to start with a tightly directed and monitored activity and by the third year be moving in a direction of their choice with somewhat less need for direct supervision.
The office of Undergraduate Research and International Programs will provide support to accomplish scholarly and creative activities as part of the normal academic year or summer term. To assist our faculty in developing themselves to better support UVU students in their scholarly and creative activities we have listed below funding opportunities faculty members can apply for to develop and progress toward their goal of meaningful scholarship experience. |
