German
May 10 - June 6, 2009
Germany is in the heart of Europe and Berlin is the heart of Germany—a country that was at the center of the most significant events of the twentieth century. Once a small village on the backwaters of an unimportant river, Berlin evolved into the home of the Prussian Kings, then into the capital of the German Empire. Later it became the center of the Nazi terror, and then the front line between East and West during the Cold War. Today, Berlin continues to evolve as it transforms itself into a center of art, culture, and learning as the cosmopolitan capital of the reunited Germany. Come and study in this culturally vibrant and student-friendly city. In Berlin you will have the opportunity to learn or improve your German, meet other students from around the world, and discover the beauty, the architecture, the fabulous food, and the fascinating people of Berlin.

The evidence of that success is especially evident in Tokyo. Yet, when you visit Kyoto, the old capital, you enjoy the quiet and calm of a long history and rich traditions. Temples, castles, shrines, and artwork take you back to the time when noblemen wrote poems, performed tea ceremonies, and arranged flowers. The opportunity has finally arrived! UVU offers a program for students to learn Japanese and experience Japan’s people and culture. Students will live with Japanese families and travel throughout the country for two weeks. They will enjoy gadget stores in Tokyo, the bullet train, sushi and other exotic food, opportunities to speak the language with host families, and much more.
