Meet Our Team
Steve Clark, Director
Stephen Don Clark, 64, was born in Provo, Utah on July 4th to Don S. and Marion Larsen Clark. He attended Provo schools including the maiden kindergarten class at Wasatch Elementary School, Central Jr. High and Provo High School. He served in the United States Army Reserve and trained at Fort Ord in California as an infantryman. He served an LDS mission for two and one half years in Norway. After his mission, he attended Brigham Young University where he got his BA and MA in advertising and public relations. His first job was with Chevron Oil Company as a marketing representative and he worked in most of the western states. Later he was promoted to a government affairs manager in Chevron's headquarters in San Francisco. Steve's advocacy job took him into almost every state in the union and Washington D.C. He worked with Chevron's retained lobbyists. In 1979 Steve left the oil business to take over a family-owned mechanical construction business. His grandfather, P. L. Larsen, started this business in the 1920's. Mechanical construction includes plumbing, heating, air conditioning and controls. When Steve took the business over, the name became Clark Mechanical Contractors, Inc. and for twenty-nine years has had the distinction of doing some notably large projects such as the LaVell Edwards Stadium, Nestle Food - Stouffer Foods, the David O. McKay building, renovation of Temple Square, WordPerfect, Micron - IM Flash Corp., and other medical, manufacturing, utility, energy and retail projects. Steve has stepped out of the day-to-day activities of Clark Mechanical and has turned it over to his sons to manage. However, he still sticks his head in to give them a hand when they need it. It is rewarding to see his sons succeed in managing the family construction business, situated in Provo, and he knows the dedication it takes to be successful.
Steve's interest in politics began early in life. He started out as an advocate fighting the degradation of his neighborhood in Provo. From there he was appointed to an at-large council seat on the Provo City Council. After his appointment he ran for two more terms on the Council. His next step was to run for the Utah House of Representatives in 2000. He has served four two year terms in the House. His district includes Northeast Provo from the Temple south to approximately 4th South. He presently serves as the chair of the Business/Labor committee and a member of the House Transportation Committee. He is assigned to the Capital Facilities and Administrative Services Appropriations Subcommittees. This committee approves all the building construction in the State such as the new Utah Valley University library. He also has the special assignment to serve on the House Ethics Committee.
