Benefits to Employers

Internships are a very beneficial and cost efficient way to utilize talented students and promote your company. Below are basic questions and answers about internships in general.

What is an internship?
The purpose of an internship is to assist students in obtaining practical and valuable work experience, to apply skills and knowledge learned in school, and to gain exposure to various job opportunities and industries.

An internship must:
  • Be a job directly related to the student’s major.
  • Be approved by the UVU academic departments.
Introductory level internships are a great opportunity for students to "test drive" careers - giving them the chance to see what workers in that industry do.

What resources are available for me to find an intern?
The UV Job Board is an online database where employers can post internship opportunities and students can search for openings based on position type, major, etc. To post an internship, log on to www.uvu.edu/csse, click on “UV Job Board for Employers,” and register. From there you may post positions, search for potential student workers, or review resumes of student applicants. An instructional sheet for using the UV Job Board may be printed out from the login page.

If you have questions about posting on the UV Job Board, please call Career Services and Student Employment at 801-863-6364.

You may also contact the Director of Internship Services or the Department Internship Coordinator for the major associated with your internship for more help in finding an intern.

Who is a Department Internship Coordinator?
A department internship coordinator is assigned to every academic department / major to assist with the coordinating and arrangement of the academic internship experience.

Each department internship coordinator determines what a student can and cannot do for their internship, how many hours they need to work, what assignments they must complete while working to receive academic credit, etc.

How do I get started?
