Cost of Attendance

The College calculates the "Cost of Attendance" by estimating the student´s education expenses for the period of yearly enrollment (budget). This budget reflects how much the student alone will need to spend to live and attend school. Because Congress feels student aid funds should not be used to pay living expenses for a spouse or dependents, nothing is included for other family members, and costs unrelated to the completion of a student´s course of study are also not included in the calculation of the budget.
Standard budgets are developed each year, reflecting average costs of attendance for students in various situations. Those budgets represent costs for:
  1. Commuter students, who reside with parents/family
  2. Resident students, described as Utah residents who reside in the community while attending school
  3. Non-resident students, those persons with out-of-state residency and who pay higher tuition
  4. Non-resident students living with family, who are given a commuter budget with non-resident tuition
  5. Global Aviation students, who are assigned a Global Aviation budget
  6. Less than half-time students, whose budgets have federally imposed limitations
For purposes of consistency and systematization and to reflect student living patterns budgets are based on a nine-month, two-semester academic year and are limited to tuition and fees, books and supplies, tools and equipment, room and board, transportation, and personal expenses, debts, dependent care allowance, loan origination fees and insurance premiums, and other costs such as expenses associated with handicaps.
A budget is assigned to a student according to information obtained through the FAFSA and UV Link Financial Aid Data Form. This becomes part of the Financial Need calculation. Students may appeal their cost of attendance or income but they must be prepared to submit substantial documentation.
