FAFSA Helpful Hints
The
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is provided by the United States government and is FREE.
You will not need to pay any fees nor pre-pay any money... ever. This service is
available online. A paper form is available through a special request handled by our office
for those with special circumstances.
Utah Valley University is identified by the Title IV Code of "004027"
which is needed for the FAFSA.
If the student is classified as a
"dependent", then the parent has a part in the student´s FAFSA application.
The student will start the initial application and then the parent will provide their information
within the same FAFSA. Both the student and parent will provide
their "electronic signatures" at the end of the submission process.
The parent´s information is needed to determine the amount of aid the student is eligible to receive.
Much of the information required can be found on your Income Tax Return. Please check
to be sure you are submitting the correct tax year information for the school year you
wish to attend. Generally, the tax year will be a one year earlier than the school
year attended; e.g. School Year 2008-2009 will need 2007 tax information.
Please take the time to be accurate, complete, and exact. Report your name and the
student's name exactly as it appears on your social security card. Read all directions
and verify all personal information.
When the FAFSA form is complete, an email will be sent to the address you specified.
Please retain this email for future reference. Information submitted to FAFSA is
electronically transferred to UVU. Please allow two weeks for processing.
UVU provides financial assistance to all eligible students regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability. If you need language assistance or accommodation, please inform us when you first contact our office.
