Tips for Success

Tip One... APPLY EARLY!
Applications take time to process, Once you have completed the FAFSA and Data Form you may need to provide additional documentation. Start this process early so all forms and documents can be completed by the priority date for the semester when you need financial aid. Early application will insure your award will be disbursed before UVU's payment deadline.
Tip Two... Be accurate and complete.
Most of the information the student provides is reported to UVU through the federal government. Many delays in disbursing funds to students come from mismatched name, social security number, birth date, etc. that students carelessly misreport. To avoid these delays
  1. Report your name exactly as it appears on your social security card.
  2. Verify your birth date. (Many students report the current year as their birth year.)
  3. Have your federal tax return in front of you as you fill out your FAFSA or other required financial documents to avoid conflicting information.
  4. Read all directions for each form. Please do not assume. Do not leave items blank.
Tip Three... Write your name and UV ID on forms you submit to UVU, and keep a copy for yourself.
Any documentation submitted in paper form must have your name and UV ID written on EVERY page. Documents with missing ID information will not be filed tracked in the appropriate student file. Remember to keep a copy of all documents submitted to financial aid.
Tip Four... Limit the release of personal information.
There are many questionable agencies that want to help in your search for Financial Aid. Some will charge you for otherwise free services such as FAFSA completion. Use extreme caution in divulging your personal information to these agencies. Not all student loans have the same rules, interest rates, or repayment schedules. Shop around. Don't feel pressured. Ask questions. Always know you can visit the financial aid office and ask questions pertaining to financing your higher education.
UVU provides financial assistance to all eligible students regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability. If you need language assistance or accommodation, please inform us when you first contact our office.
