Organizational Structure of the Center for the Study of Ethics
The operation of the Center for the Study of Ethics (CSE) is guided by three bodies: The Executive Committee, the Community Advisory Board (CAB), and the Ethics Across the Curriculum Faculty Advisory Committee (EACFAC).
(1) Executive Committee. The Executive Committee oversees the daily operations of the CSE. Members of the Executive Committee serve qua a particular position at UVU:
Director (David R. Keller)
Associate Director (Jill Jasperson)
Executive Program Coordinator (Don LaVange)
Distinguished Professor of Ethics (Elaine Englehardt)
Special Assistant to the President for Engaged Learning (Jack Christianson)
(2) Community Advisory Board (CAB). The CAB consists of members of the community who are not employees or students of UVU. The CAB provides guidance with regard to Center programming from an off‑campus perspective. A key function of the CAB is the selection of the recipient of the annual Excellence in Ethics Award.
(3) Ethics Across the Curriculum Faculty Advisory Committee (EACFAC).
EACFAC Function:
The responsibilities of EACFAC include recommending topics and scholars for the annual Ethics Across the Curriculum Faculty Summer Seminar, and the selection of the University Faculty Fellow in Ethics. Although EACFAC is primarily an advisory body, it also has some governance functions, such as the selection of the University Faculty Fellow in Ethics.EACFAC Structure:
The structure of EACFAC is two‑fold: (1) Regular and (2) Ex Officio members. Regular members are full‑time UVU Faculty. Ex Officio members include (a) the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) and Deans or Dean appointees; (b) Members of the CSE Executive Committee.
Ex Officio members engage in discussion regarding EACFAC matters, but only Regular members of the Faculty vote on motions.
EACFAC Length of Service:
(1) The 18 Regular members serve staggered 3‑year terms;
(2) Ex Officio members have standing appointments.
