Utah Valley University’s Contemporary Dance Ensemble is delving into the physical and abstract concepts of human life and interaction in its new concert, “Structures,” at the Ragan Theater March 4-6. The concert will feature work from artistic director and UVU associate professor of dance Doris Hudson de Trujillo, as well as several nationally and internationally acclaimed guest choreographers.
Founded in 2006 by Trujillo, Contemporary Dance Ensemble is a pre-professional level modern dance company at UVU. The works within the concert reflect each choreographer’s unique point of view and connections to the concept. Guest choreographers include Todd Allen, Charlotte Boye-Christensen, Monica Campbell, Heather Colledge Gray, Stephen Koester and Titos Sompa. Sompa’s work features Congolese dance rhythms accompanied by Kaz Spiers, local drummer and artisan, and Kim Strunk, associate professor of dance at UVU.
The concert will begin at at 7:30 p.m. in the Ragan Theater. Tickets may be purchased at Campus Connection, located in the Sorensen Student Center, or by calling (801) 863-8797. Tickets are $10 for students and faculty and $12 for the general public.
